What we do

We control the biology that makes energy.

Vertus Energy controls microbial behaviour in anaerobic environments. We develop and commercialise industrial hardware that applies targeted electrostimulation to electroactive microbes, directing what they do, how they interact, and how efficiently they convert carbon to fuel.

What the technology does

Our biotransformation platform, built on electrostimulation of electroactive microbes.

The platform is our system of biological control: it directs how microbes convert carbon, from inputs as different as organic waste and gases, into multiple fuels. Using this platform, we engineer products, each solving a specific industry problem and each able to produce more than one end molecule.

Continuous data collection at every stage of the conversion process builds a unique body of control knowledge. This knowledge refines each product in the field and shapes every application that follows.

BRIO is the first. Applied to anaerobic digestion, where poor yields and slow processing keep the levelised cost of energy high, BRIO accelerates production and increases yield from the same feedstock.
